AI Now’s co-executive director Sarah Myers West joins Al Jazeera’s The Listening Post to talk about regulating the tech industry, and the familiar race to the bottom we see playing out in front of us.
“Time and again, whenever we’ve seen any movement toward meaningful regulation of the tech industry, we see a revival of this [race] narrative,” says Myers West. “What this narrative mistakes though is that regulation of the sector actually would be a tremendous boon to competition. Nobody is helped if we have an unregulated sector that’s engaged in the race to the bottom. That’s what we’re seeing right here and now.”
