Announcing AI Now’s Executive Director

Update

September 12, 2019

Following an extensive search, we are delighted to announce that Andrea Nill Sánchez has accepted the position of Executive Director at AI Now.

As the Executive Director, Andrea will join our Leadership Team–including Meredith Whittaker, Kate Crawford, and Mariah Peebles–to steward AI Now’s growth, with a particular focus on fundraising, program strategy, and communications.

With over a decade of experience in advocacy, law, labor, and media, Andrea has spent her career working across disciplines to advance racial, economic, and social justice–issues at the heart of AI Now’s mission. She has most recently served as a Director at The Raben Group, where she manages a portfolio of clients who rely on her organizational strategy and communications expertise, including major funders, universities, national non-profits, Fortune 500 companies, city agencies, and labor unions.

Andrea previously worked at the United Food and Commercial Workers and International Union, the Immigration Policy Center, and the Center for American Progress. She served both on the San Francisco Human Rights Commission and the San Francisco Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Task Force, where she co-chaired the Bias Subcommittee. She has a B.A. in Government from Cornell University, earned a J.D. from Yale Law School, and clerked for the Honorable Edgardo Ramos. A full link to her bio is available here.

We have been working with Andrea over the past year in her role at Raben, where she has been instrumental in shaping AI Now’s public strategy, a strong indicator of the skills and insights she brings in joining us. Her first day will be Monday, October 7th. We are also pleased to share that Andrea will be one of our featured speakers at the AI Now 2019 Symposium.

We are excited to celebrate this important organizational milestone with you all and are looking forward to the road ahead.

Warmly, Meredith, Kate, and Mariah
