We’re Seeking an Executive Director

Update

June 28, 2019

We have come a long way since 2017, when AI Now launched at NYU as the first University research center focused on the social implications of artificial intelligence. We were also one of the few led entirely by women. Since then, our team has grown to include over 26 staff and affiliates. We’ve published critical research in top-tier journals, released widely-cited reports, and run multiple research workshops and large public symposia. Our work has been covered hundreds of times in top-tier press, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Nature, and the BBC. Just this week, Rashida Richardson and Meredith Whittaker testified before Congress on the need for policy interventions to increase accountability for AI. And as these technologies continue to proliferate, the need for more rigorous interdisciplinary research into their implications grows.

In this moment of high opportunity, we are ready for the next phase of AI Now’s development. That is why we are thrilled to announce the start of our search for an Executive Director. The ED will join AI Now’s Leadership team, alongside Kate Crawford, Meredith Whittaker, and Mariah Peebles, to help run the organization, with a focus on strategic program management and fundraising.

We welcome and encourage your ideas and referrals for who might be a good fit. First and foremost, we are looking for an experienced leader who is committed to AI Now’s mission and embodies our organization’s values.

We are excited about this next step for AI Now and we look forward to introducing this new team member to our organization and to our broader community.
